Music makes or breaks the feel of a video, but the wrong track can get your upload muted, claimed, or demonetized. Here's how to add music safely and make it feel intentional rather than slapped on.
Where to find safe music
- Your editor's built-in, royalty-cleared sound and music library
- Platform-native sound libraries (TikTok's and Instagram's own sound pickers are cleared for use on those platforms)
- Creative Commons tracks that explicitly allow commercial use — always check the specific license terms
- Original or commissioned music, which carries zero copyright risk
Syncing music to your edit
Cut on the beat where possible — even simple footage feels more polished when a transition lands exactly on a drum hit. Bring the music in slightly under your voice level so it supports rather than competes with narration or dialogue.
Avoiding the copyright trap
If you're unsure whether a track is cleared, don't use it. A claimed video can lose its monetization or get muted retroactively, which is far more disruptive than picking a different track up front.
EseCut ships with a built-in SFX and music library that rides along cleanly into your export.
